February 1, 2015

We had a great week.  I bought the kids a step stool to use in the kitchen.  It is very light and sturdy and easy for them to open/close and move around.  All of them like to use it.  Tommy loves being able to see what is on the countertops.  Annie went to play at a friend's house and came back with jewel toned bedazzled hair.  Not my favorite look.  Thank goodness it washed out that night.

Annie was invited to her friend Natalie's princess birthday party. She decided to go as Princess Ariel - the Little Mermaid.  She looked so cute all dressed up.  Her hair is getting so thick and long.  She is looking more grown up every time I turn around.

Lily got to bring home the class bear "Paco" this week.  Paco stayed with us for seven days.  After meeting the family, he was tucked in to Lily's bed for safe keeping and only came out for special events.  We took him to the library, dance classes, and to the store.  He was really dirty so Mommy gave him a bath in the washing machine.  Tommy loved Paco's hat.  It was just the right size, in fact, Tommy and Paco also wear the same size clothes.  Lily made some pages for Paco's book to write about his adventures with us.  She has been waiting all school year for her turn with Paco.

Jeremy is feeling a need to finish the basement before this summer when baby #4 arrives.  He has been taping, mudding, and sanding every night and every Saturday for the past few weeks.  He comes up afterward covered in chalky dust.  There's still so much left to do.  We're thinking of hiring someone to come and finish the prep work to help hurry things along.

Tommy has been an eating machine.  He is waking in the night hungry and waking earlier in the morning ready to eat.  He has two breakfasts every day.  Pancakes with raspberry jam are his favorite right now.  Annie discovered the joy of milk bubbles in a glass.  I remember doing this as a child and trying to get the bubbles as high as I could before they burst over the edge.  It was cute to see her try the same thing....then I made her clean up the mess.

Annie is still doing great with dance.  She is a joy to watch.  I think her dance routine is a little boring and too easy for her, but other girls in the class are still struggling.  Hopefully next year she will have a more exciting routine to learn.  But her costume is darling.  I can't wait for her to see it.

I got to help at Lily's school this week.  Her class is learning how to measure length and size.  Each child made a yellow strip as tall as they are and glued a head to it.  Then they decorated the head to look like them.  Lily was excited to find yarn that was auburn colored like her hair so she didn't have to use the bright red or orange yarn.  I spent a lot of time helping a little boy who still can't identify all his letters and their sounds.  He is really struggling.  I hope his parents can step up, or that child will have a rough time in school.  It broke my heart to see him completely not know something as basic as his letters and sounds.

Paco loved dance class.  The kids made him the guardian of the water bottles.  He did a good job.

On Friday the kids at school got to wear their team colors.  The class with the most participation won an ice cream party.  Lily's class did not win, but she was super excited to borrow Annie's Seahawks cheer outfit and be a cheerleader for the day.  Now she wants her own outfit.

We still have snow on the ground but we've had some warmer days - almost 40 degrees.  The kids have been going out to the trampoline a lot.  They are missing the sunshine.

Sunday night we had a quiet night at home.  Lily asked if we could make snickerdoodles.  When the first batch came out, they were a little underdone.  I had to put them back in for two more minutes.  It was like torture for Tommy.  He sat on the floor and cried waiting for his cookie.  When they came out and were cool enough to eat, he was so happy.  He ate two cookies all on his own!

That's it for us.  See you next week.
