We didn't have too much excitement in mid April. Lots of trips to the library, playdates with friends, swimming lessons, dance lessons, working on the basement, etc. Just lots of normal stuff. Our local grocery store was having a Hawaiian Days promotion and built two huts out of banana boxes. The kids loved playing in them.
I am still helping out in Lily's classroom. One morning while trying to get myself and Annie ready, Tommy used the step stool to open our kitchen cupboard, take out the container that holds all my sprinkles, and pour sprinkles all over the kitchen floor. The picture doesn't do it justice. It was a total mess. I was scrubbing sprinkles out of the tile grout for a couple of days.
Lily's class is preparing for a Cinco de Mayo celebration concert. They have been practicing lots of songs and dances. I can't wait to see the show!
On April 17 we made our way to Boise to welcome Grammy and Grampy home from their mission and witness Cassandra McCashland's wedding. It was a gorgeous weekend and a beautiful wedding.
We love the big park near Grammy and Grampy's house. We spent hours there over the weekend. Mommy got the sunburn to prove it too. Ouch!
The kids loved Cassandra's reception. They had a soft serve ice cream machine with too many toppings to count. It was a big hit with all the guests. Lily, Annie, and Tommy loved the dancing too. It was so fun to see our old friends again. I made the comment to Jeremy that Meridian doesn't feel like "home" anymore. I guess we're finally settled in our new life in Eastern Idaho.
All the time we lived in the Boise area, we never visited the Birds of Prey Center. We thought the kids might enjoy it during our trip. It was better than we expected. The kids were amazed at how big some of the birds are. The center has a condor rehabilitation and rehabitation program so we got to see a few giant birds. Lily snapped the picture of the Perregrine Falcon above. It is our state bird and recently came off the endangered species list.
Lily figured out the monkey bars during this trip too. She was so proud to show us that she could make it across. Annie loved the rock formations in the park. She is fearless going up, but coming down is another story.
We stocked up on Cheetos and apple juice boxes to survive the drive home. It worked pretty well. The kids did better in the car on this trip than any other road trip we've had.
We returned home to gorgeous weather. I took the kids to the park almost every day for a week to soak up the sun. One afternoon we even made a trip to McDonald's for ice cream and a drink to cool off. The kids are total ice cream addicts.
Tommy got hit with a 24 hour tummy bug. He threw up four times in one day, went to bed early and slept for 14 hours, then woke up fine the next day. It is so sad when a little one gets the tummy yucks. We think he swallowed too much pool water in swimming lessons. And we're thankful no one else in the family got sick.
One Sunday morning, the kids decided to paint before church. Tommy had his own paper, but he was more interested in making additions to Lily and Annie's masterpieces.
Lily with her Johnny Appleseed pot on her head.
Awesome crazy hair day braids. She kept them in until bedtime.
Lily's kindergarten class is in countdown mode. Every day has a theme that corresponds to a letter of the alphabet from now until June 4. So far we've had apple day, bubble day, crazy hair day, dinosaur day, and exercise day. Lily was so excited to be Pippi Longstocking for crazy hair day. She said kids at school asked her all day long how she got her hair to stand out straight like that. I went in to help for dinosaur day. All the classes were on a rotation from station to station. Lily's teacher had the snack station. We gave each child a pudding cup with a smashed Oreo on top to look like dirt. Then they could add gummy dinosaurs, jelly beans (dinosuar eggs), and graham crackers that were shaped like bones. We were the hit of the day. Serving snacks to 125 kindergarteners was exhausting - luckily the kids came in groups of 22-28 and not all at once. I'm so glad I could be there to help. I don't know how teachers survive some days.
Our biggest news of the past few weeks is.....the carpet in the basement is done. Unfortunately the carpet guys made some gouges in the walls and busted a piece of trim. Hopefully they will be easy fixes, but Jeremy is still bummed he has repairs to make after working so hard to get everything done. The kids are thrilled about the carpet. It feels so soft. We moved the t.v. downstairs and we've already noticed that the house is so much quieter and the kids are watching less t.v. Win for everyone!
This past weekend Lily had her final clogging recital of the year. Her class did three numbers - including a new one they just learned in April. Grammy and Grampy came for a visit and got to see the performance. Lily loved having them here. We bought her a bouquet of carnations and she was over the moon with excitement about the flowers. She even brought the bouquet into the ice cream parlor with her after the performance. The music and shoe tapping were so loud that Annie needed Kleenex in her ears to dampen the sound. We sat near an exit and Tommy spent most of the performance playing outside rather than watching the dancing. But it was still a fun night and we saw some great dancing. Lily said she wants to do clogging again next year. Daddy wants to do it with her. Thanks for coming to visit Grammy and Grampy!
