After his dinnertime nap, Tommy woke up ready to play. He and Daddy had some fun together on the trampoline. I love watching them play together.
After play time we had Family Home Evening. The lesson was on obedience. Mommy and Daddy talked about the importance of staying obedient to Heavenly Father's commandments in order to be prepared for eternal life. Then we did an object lesson - treasure hunt. We hid a treasure of snickerdoodle cookies in the house and made the kids follow/obey clues in order to find the treasure.
The kids thought it was so much fun. Tommy was a little confused about why we were running all over the house and yard. But once we found the cookies (or as he pronounces it "pookies") he was happy to sit down and enjoy his treasure.
Annie's soccer game was cut short Tuesday night due to a sudden downpour and thunderstorm. We were hoping it would pass us by, but less than 15 minutes into the game, we were pelted with huge drops of water as thunder clapped loudly above us. Tommy and Lily were playing at the playground near the field. They came running. Tommy was really scared. He just kept saying "loud" and "all wet". I huddled under our blanket with the kids while Jeremy brought the van closer to the field. Then we made a mad dash for home. The storm was the beginning of a cooler weather week for us. Hooray! It has been so mild we've been able to sleep upstairs and play outside all day without getting too hot all this past week.
Since the weather was so cool, I jumped on the opportunity to take the kids to the zoo on Wednesday. It was breezy and 70 degrees. Perfect zoo weather. It was a perfect day. One of those days you hope for as a mom, full of happy kids and good memories. No grumpy kids or potty accidents or impatient parents. Just a calm and fun day. Lily and Annie said it was their favorite day with Mommy ever. It was one of my most favorite Mom days.

Zebras - Tommy was so excited the Zebra got so close to us

Tommy wouldn't climb on the lion statue. He wouldn't even get within three feet of it.
Tommy really enjoyed the goats. He spent half an hour watching them and feeding them. Lily got brave and decided to feed them too. Annie decided she wanted to talk to the donkeys and pigs rather than feed the goats.
I love seeing all my little chicks in their nest.
The giant tortoise was very active this day. He had managed to climb up one of the walls to his enclosure. It was amazing to watch him heft himself up there. He worked so hard to get there, but didn't stay long. Soon he lowered both legs and was stuck by his neck. Tommy was cheering Mr. Turtle on. We were relieved when he made it completely down off the fence. I had no idea they could climb like that.
After spending the morning at the zoo, we were ready for lunch and some playtime at the park.
The girls loved these little spinning bucket seats. We gave Tommy a ride and he wanted out. Lily and Annie pushed each other and laughed until they were sick. They absolutely loved it.Before leaving the park, the girls found a muddy patch and made a lake and a dam. Annie was having fun until she realized how dirty her hands were. We rinsed them off in the drinking fountain and she was good as new.
Lily had soccer team pictures this week - and she got a chance to try playing goalie in her game. She likes running around better. She was a little bored at the goal. Can you see her way in the back in the bright orange jersey? She only played goalie for one quarter/period. Then she was back to the field. I love that her coach really tries to teach the kids about the sport and about supporting one another on a a team. Lily is really enjoying soccer.
Right after her game, Lily's second tooth fell out! It has been wiggling for weeks now. She is so relieved to have it out - especially since it didn't hurt. The Tooth Fairy brought her $1.00 for the tooth. Lily was on cloud nine.
We took Annie back in to the dermatologist to have her rash looked at. He said it is healing nicely and to just keep plugging away with the medicine he prescribed. We can't wait for this itchy rash to go away for good. But in the meantime, we'll enjoy talking to the fishes at the doctor's office.
Thursday was so cold and stormy that we invited our friends the Bezzants out for a movie date. We saw Penguins of Madagascar. Nathan insisted that he sit by Lily. Annie wanted to hold my hand for most of the show. Tommy did amazingly well and sat on my lap nearly the whole time. We laughed a lot and enjoyed the break from the rainy weather.
One of Tommy's little buddies turned one recently. We went to his birthday party. In their backyard they have a water fountain for their dogs. The dogs can step on a button and out comes fresh cool water. Tommy missed most of the part because he wanted to play with the doggy water fountain. He was soaked when it was time to go home. He also loved the cupcakes. It was a fun night for Bubba.
And our final piece of news for the week. On Saturday a friend mentioned that they wanted to get rid of this built in entertainment center. They said we could have it for free if we would help haul it out. Say what? It needs some updating but it is a great solid oak piece. Right now it is sitting in our garage. After the baby is born we'll start refinishing it and try to give it some touches to make it more modern. We are so excited to have a floor to ceiling unit for the basement. It is going to be a fun project and great addition to our home.
That's all for now. We're off to Utah for the Hall family reunion. See you next week.
