September 27, 2015

Last Sunday after all the excitement of Joey's blessing had passed, we were left with just the Wanner family.  The girls love having campfire time with Papa, so they asked if we could have s'mores and sing songs around a campfire.  The weather was perfect for an evening out.

Daddy let Tommy have a whole Hershey chocolate bar.  Tommy was in heaven!  And he was a little sick the next day.  Lesson learned.

 How cute is this girl?
We sang lots of songs. "There Was an Old Woman Who Swallowed a Bat", "She'll Be Comin' Round the Mountain", and "Follow the Prophet" were the favorites of the evening.  We also did "Goin on a Bear Hunt" which involved running through a candy factory (in the middle of the forest?!?), trudging through a peanut butter swamp, and wiggling through a river of Jell-O.  It was the most creative and delicious bear hunt I've ever been on. It was hard to put the fire out and go to bed since we knew Puna and Papa would be leaving early the next morning. The girls were already missing Grammy and Grampy and their cousins after saying goodbye earlier in the day.  It was a wonderful Sunday full of family and celebration.  And it was hard to return to normal life again on Monday.

So we didn't......for Family Night on Monday we had another campfire and made s'mores again!  It was still fun, but not the same as having more people to share it with. Although Tommy didn't seem to mind...more chocolate for him!

Lily is getting really good at finding good spots in the coals for toasting marshmallows.  Mommy and Daddy reminisced about when Lily used to call them "shmarshmallows".
Joey loves being outside, but it was a little breezy and he was concerned about the wind.
Annie prefers fresh marshmallows over toasted ones, so she opted out of toasting that night.  We had a great time together trying to draw out the fun of the weekend just one more day.
We still made time for a real Family Home Evening lesson too.  We talked about following the Savior and made footsteps by tracing our feet.  The kids giggled because the crayon tickled as we traced around each foot.  We talked about some of the commandments and the example of Jesus.  Hopefully we can all try a little harder to be more like Him.
Tommy has been waking early - around 5:00 a.m. for nearly the whole week.  By late afternoon, he is ready to crash.  One day I had just put a load of laundry fresh from the dryer on the couch to fold.  He couldn't resist the warmth of the clothes and climbed up into the pile to snuggle down and sleep.  We can't figure out how to help him.  If he doesn't nap after waking early, he crashes like this late in the day.  But if we give him a nap, he goes to bed at his usual time, but wakes very early again the next morning.  Hopefully it's just a phase.  If it lasts too much longer, we're going to have to figure out something.
Lily's school offers an after school program twice a year.  It gives students a chance to try new skills or sports.  Lily really wanted to sign up for the cooking class, but with the new baby, Annie in preschool, Lily and Annie in dance lessons, and all day school for Lily, we decided our family was busy enough.  I told Lily I could give her cooking lessons.  Her first request was to learn how to make and frost cupcakes.  She also wants to make quesadillas, bread, monkey bread, rice krispy treats, and a pie.  Can't she want to make something like roast chicken, tossed salad, or scrambled eggs?  All these sweets are not helping Mommy lose her baby weight.  To avoid having a house full of cupcakes, we coordinated a neighborhood cupcake party.  Lily personally invited her friends and their parents and we also invited other church friends via Facebook.  We had 48 cupcakes and after one hour, we were down to 6.  Lily was so proud.  She learned how to pipe frosting and also how to spread it with a knife.  She did a great job.
The kids drew cute cupcakes on our driveway with sidewalk chalk.
I caught Tommy with a second cupcake near the end of the party.  That boy loves frosting.  He never ate the cupcakes, just the frosting.
Gifts are still trickling in for Joey.  We got three from Jeremy's coworkers last week.  These are two of my favorite gifts.  I love the "Boys will be Boys" onesie.  The blanket Joey is laying on is made of that soft and silky "minky" fabric.  It is so soft.  I'm sure that baseball blanket will be a favorite for a long time, and the fact that it was homemade makes it even more special to me.  Joey likes to do tummy time on the blanket.  The contrast of light and dark plus all the interesting lines on the baseballs give his little eyes a lot to focus on.
Here's more evidence of our sleep problem with Tommy.  One night before dinner he asked for a banana, he took one bite, then when we sat down to eat and pray, he fell asleep during the dinner prayer.  We sure hope he gets over this weird sleep cycle soon.
Daddy won free tickets to a Fall home and garden show in Idaho Falls.  The show was a little disappointing - not a lot of vendors or things we were interested in, but there was great fun for the kids.  They played for a couple of hours on bouncy houses and foot-propelled carts.  After the show we took the kids out for burgers and milkshakes.  We were voted the best parents ever!
To finish off our week we made a trek into Yellowstone National Park.  We packed a whole weekend worth of sightseeing into one day.  There are so many pictures that the park will get its own blog post.
