August 18, 2013

Hot fun in the summertime!  We've been so hot since coming back from the coast.  I pulled out the swimming pool to help us chill out a little.  We've really been enjoying the fruits of summer.  Our favorite snacks are peaches, plums and watermelon.  We can't wait for our raspberries to come on!

Tommy started solid foods this week.  He's been having a little bit of rice cereal every day around dinner time to help fill him up for bedtime.  He enjoyed it at first bite.  He kicks and coos between bites wanting us to hurry and give him more.

We have a little tree back by our barn that yielded fruit this year.  For the past few summers we have just let the tree grow.  We thought it was ugly and in a bad spot so we were thinking about pulling it out.  Now we are so glad we didn't.  It is an apricot tree.  The fruit was really small this year because we have not pruned or maintained the tree in any way.  But it still tasted great.  So now that we know what kind of tree it is, we decided to keep it and help it along.  We got a lot of tiny fruits - enough for a few batches of apricot fruit leather.  And the branches were low enough for the girls to go pick and eat fruit whenever they wanted.  We are so excited to have our first fruit bearing tree!

The garden is coming along.  I think everything grew about two feet in the time we were gone on vacation.  We had two zucchini that were the same size as Tommy!  Our corn was delicious and our green beans are going like gangbusters.  We've had so much zucchini that we're giving it away and what we keep secretly finds its way into almost every meal we eat.  We seriously have so much that we need to pull out a plant or two.

Tommy also amazed us by accepting a bottle and drinking the whole thing this week.  Mommy is really happy about this.  He has been a great nurser, but mommy is ready for a little freedom.  Annie never accepted bottles and went straight to cups after nursing almost a whole year.  That was a very long year!  We are glad that Tommy will take food any way it comes.

Friday night we had a family movie night.  Lily asked us to make popcorn and build a tent in the living room.  The kids fit under it just fine, but it was a little crowded for mom and dad.

Lily brushed her hair and styled her hair all on her own.  She was so proud of herself and asked me to take a picture to show her grandmas.  How do you like it Grammy and Puna?

Here's Annie up to her usual shenanigans.  Notice the dirty diaper next to her - she was supposed to put it in the garbage for me before she started playing.  She has been living in her gymnastics leotard all summer and she loves her jewels we dug up on the beach in Washington.  The jewels are all over the house.  She has some tucked in every corner so that no matter where she is, she can have some treasure.

Tommy is not sleeping well since our trip.  He doesn't travel well.  It really messes with his schedule.  I really hope he gets back to normal again soon.  I've been averaging 4-5 hours of sleep per night since we got home.  And I can't nap while he sleeps since I've still got two girls to care for.  It's a good thing he is such a cutie because he is wiping me out.  His smiles and snuggles help lift me when I feel too tired to keep up.

I just love this picture.  Lily is such a great big sister and Mommy helper.  She tries so hard to do jobs for me and help Tommy feel better when he is tired or hungry.  She really likes feeding him his cereal and giving him a bottle.

We have over 400 photos from our Washington trip to sort through.  As soon as I can narrow it down to around 20, I will post about our awesome trip.  It was great to travel but it is so good to be home and back to our (almost) routine.
