May 24 & 31, 2015

We've had a really busy end of the month with school, sports, dance, and illness.  And to top it all off, Tommy has stopped sleeping through the night - sometimes crying in his bed for hours at a time.  Mommy and Daddy are tired!  We sure hope June will quiet our life down a little.
This is a picture from a few weeks ago - Lily's Cinco de Mayo celebration at school.  Her teacher just sent it to me.  All the kids in her class looked so cute with their face paint.  Lily is in the second row - the second one in from the right.
Tommy loves to wear hats.  I think he looks so cute in the pink cowboy hat, but Daddy is not a fan.  I guess we need to get Bubba a boy hat so he'll stop wearing the pink one.
After scrubbing the carpet in our bedroom, I had to give in and cut out the spot Tommy damaged with nail polish.  The replacement isn't too noticeable - and it certainly looks better than a bright pink stain.
Annie had her end of the year dance recital.  She was awesome!  The recital started 40 minutes late.  Annie's class was the third number and the third from the last number.  We were there for over three hours!  I hope they do a better job with the programming next year.  8:30 p.m. is way too late for 4 year olds to perform.  Plus due to a sound system error, we started nearly an hour late too.  It was a long night.  Annie had a big cheering section: us, Brady and Madison, and Cassandra and Gabe.  Unfortunately, our college cheerleaders needed to go home at 8:00 to finish homework and missed her second number.  Oh well.  Annie can't wait to dance again next year.  We can't wait to see how much she'll grow as a performer.
Annie wanted an ice cream party after the recital.  It was nearly 9:00 p.m. All of us were tired.  Poor Tommy nearly fell asleep with his spoon in his mouth.  I've been forgetting to do belly pictures during this pregnancy.  Here's our baby bump at 27 weeks.  This pregnancy is flying by.
To try and help with Tommy's waking at night, I've been keeping him up during the day.  It was just an experiment to see if he was getting too much sleep.  Turns out he wasn't.  Three times during the week he fell asleep while playing with his sisters or resting on the couch.  We think maybe he was going through a growth spurt or started getting more molars.  He seems to be sleeping normally again.  And when he does wake he just needs a minute to get himself back to sleep.  Much better than the hours of marathon crying he was doing earlier.
After two weeks of rain, we finally got some sunshine!  The kids invited their friends over for a picnic one day.  I made them a fruit and veggie tray with cheese, crackers, and nuts.  Lily thought it was so fancy.  The kids ate it up quickly.
We're back to weekly lawn mowing season.  Tommy isn't smiling in the pictures but trust me, he LOVES to drive the mower with Daddy.  If Jeremy ever goes to mow without Tommy, Bubba will cry at the door until we take him out to ride.
Puna and Papa came to visit for Memorial Day weekend.  On Friday night we cooked tin foil dinners and roasted marshmallows on the campfire.  Tommy ate nearly a whole Hershey bar on his own.  It was his first time eating a chocolate bar and he loved every bite.  He kept asking for more.  Papa gave Annie and Lily marshmallow cooking lessons.  The kids had a good time.
We decided to try a new hibachi restaurant in Idaho Falls.  Our chef was very enthusiastic and entertaining.  But his style was a little too intense for Tommy.  All the loud chopping, yelling, and big flames absolutely terrified Tommy.  We had to take him out three times to calm him down.  The chef kept trying harder to engage with Tommy, which made Tommy more upset.  We're not going to take him there again any time soon.  Lily and Annie loved the restaurant.  They ate up all their food.  They even let the chef toss food in their mouths!  They have special chopsticks for children and the girls figured them out pretty quickly.  Other than a traumatized toddler, it was a fun evening.

Our big Memorial Day project was painting and installing planter boxes to the front of the house.  They give the house so much more dimension and character.  I'm excited to see how the flowers will grow and fill out the boxes this season.  Jeremy and I had been up with Tommy for one of his marathon crying sessions the night before - we were operating on less than four hours of sleep.  We were so exhausted.  It was great to have Papa here to keep the job moving along, answer questions, and get the job done.
That evening we hosted our annual neighborhood BBQ.  The weather had been gorgeous all day but quickly turned to rain about 1/2 hour into the party.  We moved everyone into the house.  Half the neighborhood showed up.  So it was really crowded in the house.  The women gathered in the living room, the kids went to the basement, and the men went to the garage (where the food was).  It was fun and we're glad we did it.  But it is so much easier when everyone can just play and visit outside.
Puna and Papa left early Tuesday morning.  By Tuesday afternoon, Grampy and Uncle Clark arrived.  The kids were excited to see Grampy, but they missed Grammy, and they were sad Grampy only stayed one night.
Lily had her second soccer practice.  Annie's team with hopefully start soon.  The league hasn't been able to secure a coach for Annie's team.  We love Lily's coach.  He is so patient and he pushes the kids to get involved.  It has been great for Lily.
I was asked to help with Field Day at school.  I was in charge of a tag game called Monkeys and Chimps.  It was fun.  Half the kids were given blue tails and half the kids had no tails.  The object was to be a monkey with a tail by the time the game was over. The kids ran their hearts out.  And they still had six other games to play.  Lily was worn out by the end of the day.  After all the games were done, the kids did a tug-of-war competition.  Lily's class was out first, but they didn't seem to mind.  They were happy to get popsicles when everything was over.
Sunday morning Tommy woke up with a fever of 102.  He was refusing to eat or drink anything.  Finally at 9:00 he ate a small bowl of applesauce.  He immediately threw it up.  We cleaned him up, spread out some towels and blankets on the floor and let him lay down in the living room.  He didn't move (other than to throw up a few more times) from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.  He got in a little water and slept most of the day.  I had to stay home from church because Jeremy was speaking in sacrament meeting and giving a sharing time presentation in Primary about his mission in Mexico.  I was so sad to miss both of those things.  But Tommy really needed Mommy and Jeremy really needed to be at church.  After a long day of being sick......we had an even longer night.  I set up a bed downstairs for Tommy and I to sleep in.  But since he had slept the day away, he wasn't in the mood to sleep that night.  I am wiped out today.  But his fever broke around 4:00 a.m. and he's kept fluids down for nearly seven hours.  We think he's better now.
Since I was staying home from choir practice and church, I had time to curl the girls hair.  They were so excited to have curly hair and wear their new dresses from Puna.  Aren't they adorable?
I started to hope Tommy was feeling better Sunday afternoon.  He suddenly wanted to play games and was wearing the new barf bowl on his head like a helmet - don't worry it hadn't been used yet.  But after an hour of reading books and playing, he got sick again, his fever spiked again, and he was back to being lethargic.  Poor little dude.  It was a tough day.
Sunday night we had an amazing sunset and lightning storm. The sky was pink and purple and on fire with lightning bolts.  I sat at our back door with Tommy on my lap.  He was fascinated by the lightning.  He would yell when a big one flashed over us.  The thunder was a little upsetting for Annie.  She needed Daddy to come and soothe her asleep.  We can't blame her.  The storm was right on top of us.
Keep us in your prayers that no one else will get Tommy's stomach bug.  Lily's kindergarten graduation is this week and she'll be heartbroken if any of us miss it.  Only four days of school left for the year!  Here comes summer!
