October 18, 2015

This week was all about the birthdays!  Puna and Papa arrived on Thursday.  We were anticipating their arrival all week long.  The kids loved getting their early morning snuggles with Puna and Papa.  On Friday night, Puna and Papa took all the kids out to see a movie and have dinner while Mommy and Daddy went to the President's Club dinner and a Lindsey Stirling concert.  The kids were great for their date night with the grandparents.  Unfortunately after a wonderful dinner, Mommy and Daddy raced to the concert.  Less than 10 minutes into the show, Mommy started having a panic attack, so Mommy and Daddy had to end our date early. It was not a fun way to end out first date night without any kids since having Joey.  Now we know that Lindsey Stirling is not someone we will ever go see again.

Saturday morning we drove to the Driggs area for a BYU-Idaho Family Fun Day at Badger Creek Recreation Center.  The kids got their faces painted and immediately found the cotton candy.  Things seemed promising.  Then we got in line for the giant swing......
The line seemed short.  Only about six people in front of us.  Lily and Jeremy really wanted to try it.  So they hopped in line.  And waited....and waited.....and waited.......the line wasn't getting any shorter even though lots of people were riding the swing.  Papa got tired of waiting and decided to try the climbing wall and small zip line.
 Awesome job Papa!
Tommy was cranky the whole time.  He kept crying if Mommy got too far away from him.  He was hungry. He wanted to go home.  We had a moments rest from his grumps when he spotted this cat. She was the only thing that made him happy.
After waiting over an hour and a half we finally realized that a family group of over 20 people were actually in front of us.  A few of them were holding place in line while all the others were riding.  That's why the line never got shorter.  We talked to the family and found out that they finally only had about seven people left to ride.  Great! The end was finally (hopefully) in sight!  Just as we neared the front of the line the staff announced they would be taking a 15 minute lunch break.  Say what? We had been waiting two hours and now they were leaving for a break? It was about 2:00 p.m. and we hadn't had lunch yet.  Mommy trekked across the camp to find lunch only to be told we couldn't have food - even though there was still plenty left - because they were putting it away and weren't allowed to serve anyone. Mommy cried on the way back to the rope swing.  How could I tell my little ones that there wasn't any food? We were hungry, hot, tired and grumpy! The staff returned after 30 minutes - not the 15 they had promised. Puna and Mommy had had it. FINALLY it was Lily's turn.
Lily was so brave. She liked putting on the gear. Her bravery inspired Annie to give the swing a try too.
After riding, Lily said the wait was totally worth it.
Then little Annie gave it a try.  She let go of the rope too soon on her first time up and had to start over again. But she did awesome her second time around.
After hours of patiently waiting and keeping the girls entertained in line, Daddy got his turn.  He said the ride was almost worth the wait.  If we ever go again we'll be sure to ask the people in front of us if they are holding places for a larger group.  We missed out on lunch, enjoying the beautiful scenery, and a few other activities because we were stuck waiting behind what we thought was a few people. Lesson learned.
After two years in a row of throwing big birthday parties for the girls, we told them that this year we would just have a family party.  They asked if we could have a party at Fuji, a new hibachi restaurant in Idaho Falls.  We went straight from Badger Creek to Idaho Falls.  All the kids had a good rest in the car.  The girls made birthday tiaras to wear during their dinner.  Madison and Mommy even got one.
The girls ordered their first Shirley Temples.  They were delicious.  And the kids liked getting a special drink with their dinner.
Brady and Papa ordered a huge plate of sushi.
Our cook was a lot of fun.  But once the flames started going, Tommy wanted nothing to do with eating.  We spent a lot of time hiding behind the partition wall while everyone else had fun and got to eat.  Next time, we'll just get a babysitter for Tommy.  He really doesn't like this place.
All that matters is that the birthday girls had a wonderful time! They ordered crunchy honey shrimp and loved every bite.  The rest of us had amazing hibachi cooked meat and vegetables.
The staff came and sang happy birthday to the girls and brought them bite sized cupcakes with a candle.
Lily and Annie loved the cupcakes and the song.
Such a fun way to end the day!
The girls had very specific requests for their cakes this year. Annie wanted a heart shaped strawberry cake with strawberry filling and pink and red frosting.  Lily wanted a star shaped lemon cake with yellow frosting. Puna delivered.  She girls loved their cakes!
 Jewelry boxes!
 A new alarm clock!
Magnetic dolls and art supplies!
Present time was lots of fun.  The girls loved everything and got a lot of things from their wish lists. Thank you Puna & Papa, Brady & Madison, and Grammy & Grampy!
When did these to two grow up?  The years seem to be flying by. Happy birthday Lily and Annie!
This was the happiest Tommy felt all day!  He LOVES cake!
Thank you for coming all the way to Rigby to celebrate with us Puna and Papa.  We're so glad you were here to celebrate with us. Happy birthday to our sweet girls.
