Rather than have a friend party (she's saving that for her 11th birthday - she wants a huge Harry Potter themed party), Lily wanted a chance to ride horses with her best friend Nicole. Our neighbors kindly gave the girls a short riding lesson and let the girls ride for two hours. Lily and Nicole had an amazing experience. Neither of them have much horse experience so they were worried about falling off or letting the horse go too fast. But everything went fine and they had an unforgettable morning.
It was so nice of our neighbors to let the girls ride. Lily wrote them the sweetest thank you note. She said they made her birthday dream come true. Now she wants to ride all the time. We may have created a monster. After the morning ride, the girls wanted a brunch date. Mommy took them to JB's in Rexburg because we had a gift certificate that needed to be used. Worked out perfectly...free brunch. I think we need to take Lily out more because she and Nicole are still talking about that brunch weeks later saying it was the yummiest food. I wouldn't call JB's the yummiest food, but I am so glad the girls thought it was amazing. They sat on the same side of the booth and giggled all through our meal. So cute.
Since Lily's actual birthday was on Sunday we made her wait until then to open her presents. She was excited to also get her own diary that locks as well as new walkie talkies from Grammy.
It's messy but you've got to admit, it's better than birthday spankings! Both of the girls needed a shower to get rid of all the confetti in their hair.
Lily wanted lemon cake with lemon frosting and Puna decorated it in Lily's favorite color.
A night with family is all Lily wanted. We had a great time together. Our oldest is now 10 years old! Lily has been our practice child - we don't know what we're doing and we've made our share of mistakes, but her forgiving heart, desire to do good, and quiet intelligence have carried all of us through the ups and downs of family life.
