Joey's 3rd Birthday Celebrations

We returned home from the Hall Family reunion just in time to have Puna and Papa join us for Joey's birthday weekend. The kids wanted to show Papa our favorite little Japanese garden in Idaho Falls. This is one of Joey's favorite places to run around and explore.
No one fell in the creek, we didn't lose Joey, and we got to see a beautiful girl take her quinceanera pictures in an amazingly over the top dress. During our picnic, the kids got to catch up on Puna snuggles and we got to feed a brave little squirrel. It was a great day at the park. Joey loved it.
To truly begin Joey's birthday celebrations, we took him to his absolute favorite place - the water park. Who am I kidding? It's our whole family's favorite place. You can tell from all the big smiles in the pictures.
Joey loves jumping into the pool. He did it over and over and over again. Then Tommy and Annie decided to try it too.
The next best thing to jumping in the pool is getting thrown into the air by Daddy and Papa.
I still think my favorite purchase of the whole summer was these goggles. I just love seeing the kids in them. Too darn cute.
Happy round one of birthday celebrations Joey. We love you.....ya little stinker!
Round two of partying came after church on Sunday. While Mommy was away at ward council, the family worked on the cake. Papa built the paper pirate ship, Puna made the frosting, Lily frosted all the cupcakes, and Puna assembled and frosted the big cake. Joey absolutely loved it. I love that the whole family helped put it together.
After dinner, we gathered up our crew for Joey's favorite pirate story "Dirty Joe The Pirate". The best part of the story is that his sister Stinky Annie comes to steal Dirty Joe's underwear. It makes all of us laugh.
Once the story was finished we played pin the flag on the treasure map. Some were more successful than others.
Birthday boy had a lot of help.
Papa obviously needed help - he didn't even make it on the map
Joey wanted to have a treasure hunt so we hid clues all over the house. The kids loved zig-zaging everywhere looking for the clues.
At last we found the pirate booty. Joey is still playing with all the plastic coins that were in the treasure chest.
We found jewels, coins, and lots of candy. It was Joey's pirate dream come true!
Finally it was time fore presents. Joey was still busy with the pirate treasure, so we let Papa open his first.
We gave him a candy gram and a phone battery pack for when he is in the mountains.
Joey was so excited about all of his gifts.
He loved his pirate dress up clothes from Mommy and Daddy. The sword only lasted one week before it broke.
Joey loved his cake. At first he asked for an orange pirate cake. We weren't sure how to do that so we talked him into a blue cake (like the ocean) and orange cupcakes. We added orange sprinkles to the cake batter so there were dots of orange all through the cake too.
Since Joey and Papa have birthdays that are close together, we had them share the cake and took turns singing to each of them. Joey thinks it is cool to share a birthday with his Papa.
Told you he loved the cake.
After cake time we played outside with all the new presents. Uncle Brady got Papa a corn hole game.
The rest of us took turns with Joey's new cars and bat and balls.
Happy 3rd birthday Joey! You make us crazy and you make us laugh. We are so glad Heavenly Father sent you to our family. Your big heart and love of life complete our family.
