December 29, 2013 Part One

What a great way to spend the week - all together as a family, celebrating the Christmas holiday, vacationing at the Hall family cabin.  We ate a lot, slept a lot, played a lot, and had one of the most relaxing weeks ever!

Tommy was still sick when we got to the cabin so I was hesitant to let him out in the cold.  After a day of resting I finally gave in because he looked so darn cute sitting at the window watching everyone else play outside.  He loved being toted around in a sled.  And he even took a few rides down the hill with Lily and the cousins.

Annie's first order of business at the cabin was to build a snowman.  The snow at our house is plentiful but too dry to pack for snowballs and snowmen.  She was really proud of her creation and named him "Frosty".

We went sledding as a family at our favorite spot near McCall.  Lots of little hills and jumps and fun stuff to sled on.  Lily was so brave and took some big rides.  Luckily no one was hurt.  We had pretty slick conditions.  We couldn't get a lot of pictures because it was really snowing/raining this day.

Grammy helped the younger kids build a gingerbread village.  Lily took her little house very seriously.  Annie was all about sticking as much candy to the roof of her house as possible.

Lily really wanted to sleep in the big room with all the cousins.  Unfortunately there was a big football game on one night and the adults stayed up until 10:30 p.m. watching it.  This is how Lily slept through the lights and noise of the game.  Poor little Bug!

On Christmas Eve I fulfilled a promise I made to Jeremy - to give skiing a try.  I was terrified and honestly spent the first hour crying or on the verge of tears.  It was scary and frustrating, but I got the hang of it about two hours in.  Jeremy was a patient teacher and stayed right in front of me to help me stop and guide my way. I am still not in love with the sport but I will give it another shot.  I love winter so much.  It just makes sense to try and love skiing.  And thank goodness for a teacher who loves me!

On Christmas Eve we did a family nativity skit.  Jeremy and I played Joseph and Mary.  Tommy was baby Jesus.  Lily and Annie were pretty in pink shepherds.  Jared was our narrator.  Becky and Meredith were the angels.  And Ike, Grampy and Wyatt were the wise men.  It was a sweet way to help us remember our Savior.  The little kids thought it was awesome.

We made frosted sugar cookies for Santa before going to bed.  There were so many cookies left out for Santa that he only had time to eat one bite from every cookie.  The kids thought that was cool.

One tradition we have is to give the kids a book for Christmas.  This year we gave them all the same book and let them open it on Christmas Eve so we could read it before going to bed.  They were excited to get "The Polar Express" since that is one of their favorite Christmas movies.  OK, Tommy was just excited to get a new teething toy in  the form of a book. Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.

Whew!  That was just the first two days at the cabin, eight more to go.
