4th of July 2015

Happy birthday to Jeremy and our great nation of America!  We started the day early with a family fun run in Rexburg.  Lily and Annie were so excited to run a race - just like Mommy has done.  Lily was sad I couldn't run with her this year due to the baby.  But she and Daddy had a great experience together.  Papa was Annie's running buddy.  Brady and Madison ran too.

They got registered and stretched to warm up for the run.  The race started almost 20 minutes late because there was a hold up with the city flag ceremony.  Everyone got hot standing in the sun and waiting to move.
Lily was determined to run the whole thing.  Daddy said she did an awesome job.  We weren't sure how Annie would do but Papa said she kept her little feet moving the entire mile. I was so proud of both the girls for trying something new.

As they approached the finish line, Tommy got really excited.  He loved all the cheering and clapping.  He kept calling out "Lily! Lily!"
Annie was so hot - her skin was flushed from the top of her head to the bottom of her feet.  We made her drink, drink, drink!  Puna was so happy to give lots of hugs and kisses to her little runners at the finish line.
After the race, we made our way over to the parade.  It was so hot in the sunshine, but there was no shade to be found.  It took the girls a little while to figure out how to wave and attract attention from the floats in order to get candy and toys thrown their way.  But once they figured it out, Annie was determined to stay near the street to get as much as possible.
Tommy loved the helicopter and airplane flyovers.  And every big balloon was really exciting for him too.
Lily knew I was worried about Annie's safety right up on the street.  But it was too darn hot for me to stand out there with her - so Lily stayed by Annie's side and held her hand or kept an arm around her to be sure Annie would stay out of the road.  I love the sweet sister bond they have.
The girls take their dancing very seriously.  They're grooving to one of their favorite songs "Shake it Off" in this picture.  They look so hot and pink from the sun.  We kept pouring water on each other to cool off.
When Lily got too hot to safeguard Annie, Papa took over.  Thank goodness for grandparents.  The kids caught so much candy, it filled half my purse.  They were in sugar heaven the rest of the day.  We left the parade early to get into the water park.  Mommy was starting to overheat in the sun and the kids were tired and cranky.  We probably won't go to the Rexburg parade for a long time.  Too hot and crowded.
The water park was not crowded at all.  We secured a table and shade umbrella and lots of chairs for resting.  The water felt amazing.  We played for a few hours - until the kids started getting cold - and then packed up to go home. It was hard to leave the cool water knowing the house would be so hot when we got back, so we stopped for Italian ice and frozen custard on the way back. Yum!
Lily saw an idea for red, white, and blue strawberries that she wanted to make for Daddy's birthday party.  I melted the chocolate for her and she did all the dipping - first the berries go in white chocolate and then the tip is rolled in blue sugar.  She was really proud of her work.  Annie wanted to help too, but Lily really wanted to do this project on her own.  Luckily we had some regular chocolate and red, white, and blue sprinkles.  Annie dipped her own berries and we served both for dinner.  The girls made 36 dipped berries.  Between the nine of us, every berry was eaten.
After dinner, Daddy opened his presents.  He got an awesome singing hamburger card from Puna and Papa that has entertained the kids for days now.  Although Tommy is still a little worried about the card and prefers to listen to the song from a distance.  The favorite gift of the night was a wheelbarrow.  We've been needing one for years and Jeremy finally got one. I think the kids were more excited about the wheelbarrow than Jeremy was.  We had a fun night of wheelbarrow rides in the yard.

We had a lot of laughs taking turns pushing and riding.  And the weather cooled of perfectly.  It was a gorgeous night.  After the wheelbarrow rides we came in for cake.  Jeremy requested tres leches again this year.  I didn't have enough berries to make the right amount of stripes for the flag - oh well!
Happy birthday Daddy! We love you!
We did a huge neighborhood fireworks show on Thursday night that kept all of us up past 11:00 p.m.  On the 4th we decided to start our family fireworks earlier and get the kids to bed at a more reasonable hour.  Papa brought lots of sparklers for the kids.  The girls enjoyed them - especially Annie.  We also had two big fireworks to watch.  Tommy would not go near any fireworks.  He sat in the living room window and watched us.  Sometimes he felt brave and he would stand at the edge of the garage to get a closer look. Once the fireworks were done, we were exhausted.  We'd all been up and running for over 15 hours.  It was time for rest.  I have never been happier to climb into bed and enjoy the cool relief of air conditioning.  Happy 4th of July!  I think I might need to sleep for a few days to recover.
