A Big Week of Firsts for Annie

While Lily was off at school learning and growing, Annie got to have some adventures of her own.  We built a tent fort for Tommy, tried a new type of playdough called Sand Dough, got a haircut, painted fingernails, ate a lot of Lemon Oreos - she eats the filling; I eat the cookies, reading books, and painting.  Basically she loved having Mommy all to herself.  And she likes feeling like the big sister to Tommy while Lily is away.

One first Annie was super excited about was - her first friend birthday party without Lily.  Annie's little friend Shelby turned 4 last week and invited Annie to her birthday party.  This is the first party Annie has gone to without Lily. It was Frozen themed and Annie said it was awesome!

They made princess tiaras, built snowmen out of marshmallows, ate frozen hearts (a movie reference) made from blue Jell-O, ate a picnic lunch under the trampoline, and played some fun games.  Annie loved being with her friends and celebrating with Shelby.

One major first we could have done without this week was....a broken leg!  On Sunday night after Brady's little birthday party, Annie asked Daddy and Brady to jump with her on the trampoline.  Daddy and Brady were doing big jumps and Annie landed hard.  She was crying a lot but then stopped crying and just wanted to rest.  Mommy was sure something was seriously wrong but thought there would be more crying or swelling or something if a bone had been broken.  After an hour of observation and a priesthood blessing, Mommy knew we had to take Annie to the ER for an x-ray.  We're glad we took Annie in that night.  She has what is called a greenstick fracture just under her knee in her left leg. The doctors said it is very common for young children to have a break in that spot when they jump on the trampoline with adults.

 Getting her x-ray!

 Showing off her splint.

Annie was so brave and patient at the hospital.  It is funny to us that she can be so melodramatic over dropping a fishy cracker or losing a purple crayon, but when she has a legitimate issue (like major surgery or a broken bone), she's cool as a cucumber.  She was in shock.  She was very pale and was shivering from the pain.  But she was smiling and happy to talk to the nurses.  We didn't have to stay long at the hospital.  It was about two hours from start to finish.  We were home by 10:30 and she slept peacefully all night.  We will see a specialist in a few days to determine if she needs a boot or a cast.  She does have some pain but we can manage it with Tylenol and Motrin.  She is not supposed to walk on it for the next four days.  Her dance class starts this Tuesday.  She is really bummed she won't be able to dance for the first month.

The bravery and resiliency of our children has amazed me this week.  They are such precious little people with big hearts and big dreams.  Love them so much.  Really hoping we can have a calmer second week of September!
